Falk is the prototype of a defensive defenseman in the NHL -- he's big (6-foot-5), strong (223 pounds) and tough.
The Minnesota Wild selected Falk in the fourth round (No. 110) in the 2007 NHL Draft. He spent one more season with Spokane of the Western Hockey League, helping to win the WHL title and the Memorial Cup before turning pro. After spending most of two seasons with Houston of the American Hockey League, he made his NHL debut March 19, 2010, against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Falk spent most of the 2010-11 season with Houston before making the Wild for good in 2011-12. He scored his first NHL goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 24, 2012.
The Wild traded Falk to the New York Rangers on June 30, 2013, but after getting into just 21 games in 2013-14, he returned to the Wild as a free agent on Aug. 1, 2014. Before the season ended, he'd been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and split the 2015-16 season between Columbus and Lake Erie of the AHL.
Falk signed with the Buffalo Sabres on July 1, 2016, and he spent most of the 2016-17 season with Buffalo. He had eight assists in 52 games and signed another one-year contract on Feb. 6, 2017.
