When one door closed, another did not open for Corrado, at least not right away.
After the Toronto Maple Leafs claimed him off waivers Oct. 6, 2015, from the Vancouver Canucks, he did not play for Toronto until its 29th game that season, Dec. 15, 2015, against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He finished with a goal and six points in 39 games for the Maple Leafs.
Corrado was selected by the Canucks in the fifth round (No. 150) of the 2011 NHL Draft. The speedy defenseman appeared to be on the fast track to becoming an NHL regular when, following his final Ontario Hockey League season in 2012-13, he joined the Canucks in late April.
Corrado played three regular-season games and four Stanley Cup Playoff games that season.
He played 59 games for Utica, the Canucks' American Hockey League affiliate, in 2013-14 and 15 for Vancouver. He appeared in 10 NHL games in 2014-15 and gained playoff experience (18 games) during Utica's run to the Calder Cup Finals.
Before reaching the NHL, Corrado played four seasons in the OHL, with Sudbury and Kitchener. In 2010-11 he was second on Sudbury in assists (26) and points by a defenseman (30).
