After establishing himself as an NHL regular in 2023-24, Kirill Marchenko signed a three-year, $11.55 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on July 28, 2024, to avoid a salary arbitration hearing. He delivered by setting new NHL career highs in goals (31), assists (43) and points (74) in 79 games of the 2024-25 season, becoming the third player in Blue Jackets history to have a 30-goal, 70-point season, joining Rick Nash (2008-09) and Nick Foligno (2014-15).
Marchenko was coming off his previous career highs in goals (23), assists (19) and points (42) in 78 games, earning praise from Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell for his size, skill and being an important player during his first two NHL seasons.
Born in Barnaul, Russia, Marchenko was chosen by Columbus in the second round (No. 49) of the 2018 NHL Draft. He played for St. Petersburg SKA in the Kontinental Hockey League for four seasons and signed a two-year, entry-level contract May 2, 2022.
Marchenko has represented Russia at several international tournaments. He helped his country win a bronze medal at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship and silver at the 2020 World Juniors.
