Addison, selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round (No. 53) of the 2018 NHL Draft, moved up the Minnesota Wild pipeline after he arrived in the trade that sent Jason Zucker to Pittsburgh on Feb. 10, 2020.
He made his NHL debut Feb. 16, 2021, a 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. He scored his first NHL goal against the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 2 the following season and returned to Iowa of the American Hockey League to lead their defensemen in scoring, assists and power-play goals, and was named to the AHL all-rookie team.
Addison also excelled internationally, his nine points (one goal, eight assists) helping Canada win gold at 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship. Three years earlier, he won gold at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.
Addison's three assists against the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 17, 2022, tied a Wild record for most by a rookie defenseman and he became the fifth rookie in team history with three assists in one game.
Addison was traded to the San Jose Sharks on Nov. 8, 2023, for forward Adam Raska and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
