Boqvist signed a a one-year contract with the New York Islanders on May 30, 2025. He was claimed off the waivers from the Florida Panthers on Jan. 31, and previously played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Blackhawks selected Boqvist, a native of Falun, Sweden, with the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. He quickly signed with Chicago and came to North America to play for London of the Ontario Hockey League in 2018-19, scoring 20 goals and 60 points in 54 games.
That was enough to convince the Blackhawks that Boqvist was ready for the NHL. He made his debut against the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 2, 2019, and scored his first goal one night later against the Anaheim Ducks.
Boqvist played 15 Swedish Hockey League (SHL) games with Brynas IF in 2017-18 and Brynas' junior club from 2016-17 to 2017-18. He helped Sweden win a bronze medal at the 2018 IIHF U18 World Championship, where he led his position in goals (three) and points (seven) to be named Best Defenseman. He also earned bronze at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, leading all skaters with seven assists (one goal, seven assists) in five games.
Boqvist's older brother, center Jesper Boqvist, was a second-round choice (No. 36) by the New Jersey Devils in the 2017 NHL Draft who also made his debut in 2019-20.
