Tarasov was traded to the Florida Panthers by the Columbus Blue Jackets on June 26, 2025, for a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, which made him teammates with one of his role models, Sergei Bobrovsky. He then signed a one-year contract July 1.
Tarasov made 47 saves for the Blue Jackets to defeat Bobrovsky and the Panthers 5-3 on Nov. 20, 2022, saying after the game it was special every time he'd play against a Russia-born goalie and that night in particular was special because he and Bobrovsky are each from Novokuznetsk.
Tarasov went 7-10-2 with a 3.54 goals-against average, .881 save percentage and one shutout in 20 games (19 starts) for Columbus in 2024-25. He was chosen in the third round (No. 86) of the 2017 NHL Draft and signed his entry-level contract with the Blue Jackets on May 4, 2019, after playing for Toros in the Supreme Hockey League (VHL) the second level of hockey in Russia, and Salavat in the Kontinental Hockey League. He was named one of Russia's top-three players at the 2016 IIHF World Under-18 Championship with a 2.11 GAA and .921 save percentage in five games. He also won a bronze medal at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Tarasov made 30 for his first NHL win, 5-1 against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 23, 2022.
