Anderson saw a familiar face when he made his NHL debut for the Los Angeles Kings against the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 29, 2020. His older brother Joey Anderson, a forward, plays for the Devils and was in the lineup that night at Staples Center. When Mikey took the ice for a solo lap in his debut, Joey was the first player on the ice for the Devils and flipped a puck to his kid brother -- with their parents and older sister in the stands.

The defenseman from Fridley, Minnesota, was playing his first NHL game less than a year after signing with the Kings on April 23, 2019, following two seasons at Minnesota Duluth, where he played on back-to-back NCAA championship teams, the first with his brother. following two seasons with Waterloo of the United States Hockey League.

Anderson, selected in the fourth round (No. 103) of the 2017 NHL Draft, played 53 games with Ontario of the American Hockey League before being recalled by the Kings on Feb. 28, 2020, and earned his first NHL point when he scored a goal against the Colorado Avalanche on March 9, 2020.
