Ferraro made an immediate impression on newly hired San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier when he was signed to a four-year contract Aug. 4, 2022. What Grier called Ferraro's energy and worth ethic helped him lead Sharks skaters in hits (415), rank second in blocked shots (305) and in blocks-per-60 (4.98, minimum 50 games) since his NHL debut on Oct. 2, 2019.
Before Ferraro, a second-round pick (No. 49) in the 2017 NHL Draft, joined the Sharks, he had 37 points (six goals, 31 assists) and was plus-11 in 80 games for the University of Massachusetts, including 23 points (four goals, 19 assists) as a freshman in 2017-18 to lead team defensemen and set a UMass record while finishing second with 54 blocked shots. He also played for Des Moines of the United States Hockey League in 2016-17 and was named to the USHL First All-Star Team and USHL All-Rookie Team after tying for first among league defensemen in goals (eight) and second in points (41) and assists (33).
