Siemens appears to have found his niche as a defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche.
Siemens was selected with the No. 11 pick of the 2011 NHL Draft, and signed a three-year entry-level contract July 28, 2011. He played two more seasons with Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League after being drafted, with short appearances for Lake Erie of the American Hockey League.
He became a full-time pro in 2013-14, spending the season in the AHL. He spent most of the 2014-15 season in the AHL, but played well enough to earn an NHL call-up, and made his debut against the Chicago Blackhawks on April 11, 2015.
Siemens spent most of the next two seasons in the AHL, and started 2017-18 there. He was recalled twice during the season, and stayed in Colorado after he was called up Feb. 13.
He got his first NHL point, an assist, against the Calgary Flames on Feb. 24, and scored his first goal against the Flames four days later. He was relied on mainly in defensive situations and killing penalties, averaging 2:36 per game shorthanded, third-most among Avalanche defensemen.
Siemens also played a role killing penalties during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, averaging 2:38 per game in five games against the Nashville Predators.
