The 6-foot-5, 207-pound defenseman chosen by the Arizona Coyotes with the No. 6 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft completed his final season with Lokomotiv of the Kontinental Hockey League with six points (one goal, five assists) in 56 regular-season games while setting new career highs in blocked shots (54) and time on ice per game (15:57). He played all 21 games of the KHL playoffs to help Lokomotiv win the Gagarin Cup for the first time.
A native of Kostroma, Russia, Simashev had 29 points (seven goals, 22 assists) in 80 games for Loko Yaroslavl, Lokomotiv's junior league affiliate, from 2021-23.
