Clarke got an opportunity to play professional hockey earlier than expected.
With the Ontario Hockey League canceling its season in 2020-21 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, Clarke played on loan with Nove Zamky in the Slovak Extraliga, the top professional league in Slovakia, and scored 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 26 games.
Among his teammates in Slovakia was his older brother, Graeme Clarke, a forward prospect for the New Jersey Devils.
Clarke returned to North America and helped Canada win the 2021 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, scoring seven points (two goals, five assists) with a plus-12 rating in seven games.
He was then selected by the Los Angeles Kings with the No. 8 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, becoming the first defenseman chosen in the top 10 by the Kings since Drew Doughty was picked No. 2 in the 2008 NHL Draft.
Clarke signed a five-year, $37 million contract (average annual value of $7.4 million) with the Kings on June 26, 2026. He set NHL career highs in goals (eight), assists (32) and points (40) in 82 games, and ranked third in the League with 185 blocked shots, in 2025-26.
