Stillman hopes to become the latest member of his family to play in the NHL after being selected by the New Jersey Devils with the No. 29 pick of the 2021 NHL Draft.
His grandfather, Bud Stefanski, played one game with the New York Rangers in 1977-78. His father, Cory Stillman, won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004 and the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 during his 16-season NHL career. His older brother, Riley Stillman, made his NHL debut for the Florida Panthers in 2018-19.
Chase has been forced to take a slightly different path. Playing with Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League in 2019-20, he tied for eighth among OHL rookies with 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 58 games and was named to the league's First All-Rookie Team.
With the OHL season canceled for 2020-21 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus, Stillman joined Esbjerg in the Denmark junior league, and scored 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in eight games.
Stillman returned to North America and scored four points (two goals, two assists) in seven games to help Canada win the 2021 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
