Wallstedt became the first goalie born in Sweden selected in the first round of the NHL Draft when the Minnesota Wild traded up in the 2021 NHL Draft to select him with the No. 20 pick. He signed a two-year, $4.4 million contract ($2.2 million average annual value) with the Wild on Oct. 7, 2024.
Wallstedt made his NHL debut Jan. 10 of that year and went 2-1-0 with a 3.01 goals-against average and .897 save percentage and made 24 saves for his first NHL shutout, a 4-0 win at the Chicago Blackhawks on April 7. He was twice named American Hockey League Player of the Week when playing for Iowa.
On Nov. 15, 2025, one day after turning 23, Wallstedt became the first rookie in Wild history with consecutive shutouts when he made 28 saves in a 2-0 win against the Anaheim Ducks in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was also the youngest Wild goalie to achieve the feat, besting the previous mark set by 24-year-old Darcy Kuemper (two straight from Oct. 9-11, 2014).
Wallstedt was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for November after going 6-0-0 with a League-best 1.14 goals-against average, .967 save percentage and three shutouts. His 1-0 win at the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 3 was his fifth shutout in 15 NHL games that made him the second fastest to reach the mark behind Frank Brimsek, who had five in his first nine starts of the 1938-39 season. He was named to represent Team Sweden at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
The native of Vasteras, Sweden, grew up playing for his hometown team and excelled at every level of his development. In 2017-18, he had a .921 save percentage in 25 games to lead Sweden's junior league. He signed with Lulea in 2018-19 and had a .901 save percentage in 21 games in Sweden's junior league and helped Sweden win the 2019 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, going 2-0 with 1.50 GAA and .936 save percentage in two games.
Wallstedt made his Swedish Hockey League debut in 2019-20, and in 2020-21 he was 11-8 with three ties, a 2.23 GAA, .908 save percentage and two shutouts in 22 games. He had a 2.40 GAA and .923 save percentage in two games for Sweden at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.
