Lohrei's NHL career with the Boston Bruins was extended when he signed a two-year, $6.4 million contract on June 23, 2025, in lieu of becoming a restricted free agent. He was coming off a season when he had NHL career highs in goals (five), assists (28) and points (33) in 77 games this season and led the Bruins at his position in assists, points and power-play points (16) while averaging 19:32 time on ice per game.
Lohrei signed an amateur tryout agreement with Boston's American Hockey League affiliate in Providence on March 31, 2023, after he helped Ohio State to the NCAA Quarterfinals. His 32 points (four goals, 28 assists) in 40 games led Buckeyes defensemen and his 29 points (four goals, 25 assists) led his position as a freshman. He played three seasons for Green Bay in the United States Hockey League and led league defensemen with 59 points (19 goals, 40 assists) in 48 games of the 2020-21 season.
Lohrei had one goal and two assists in five games at the 2025 IIHF World Championship to help the United States win its first goal medal at the tournament since 1933.
