Coming off his first full season in the NHL, Heineman was traded to the New York Islanders by the Montreal Canadiens on June 27, 2025. He played 62 games and had 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) after he totaled 38 points (22 goals, 16 assists) in 59 games over two seasons with Laval in the American Hockey League.
Heineman signed a two-year contract with the Islanders on July 2, 2025. He came to North America after three seasons with Leksands in the Swedish Hockey League. He was chosen by the Florida Panthers in the second round (No. 43) of the 2020 NHL Draft and was traded to the Calgary Flames in the deal that sent Sam Bennett to the Panthers on April 12, 2021. Nearly one year later, Heineman was dealt to the Canadiens with two draft picks in the trade that brought Tyler Toffoli to the Flames on Feb. 14, 2022.
Internationally, Heineman represented Sweden at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship and won a bronze medal at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
