Lapierre, chosen by the Washington Capitals in the first round (No. 22) of the 2020 NHL Draft, was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on June 25, 2026. He had 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 74 games for the Capitals in 2025-26, his first full season in the NHL after splitting time between Washington and Hershey of the American Hockey League.
The native of Gatineau, Quebec, is a two-time Calder Cup champion with Hershey (2023, '24). He was named MVP of the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs with a postseason-high 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) playing under Todd Nelson, a Penguins assistant coach at the time of the trade. He played four seasons for Chicoutimi and Acadie-Bathurst of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League from 2018-22, had 144 points (44 goals, 100 assists) and won the 2019 Michel Bergeron Trophy given to the QMJHL Offensive Rookie of the Year with 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists) in 48 games for Chicoutimi.
Lapierre signed a three-year, $2.775 million entry-level contract (average annual value of $925,000) with the Capitals on Oct. 27, 2020. At age 19, he scored in his NHL debut, a season-opening 5-1 win against the New York Rangers at Capital One Arena on Oct. 13, 2021.
Internationally, Lapierre helped Canada win a silver medal at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, leading the tournament with 11 points (three goals, eight assists).
