The Montreal Canadiens selected Kaiden Guhle with the No. 16 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft with the idea his 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame would help bring a physicality to the defense. His father played basketball, his mother was a figure skater and his older brother, Brendan Guhle, was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (No. 51) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Kaiden became a presence as a rookie in 2022-23, making his NHL debut Oct. 12 and scoring his first NHL goal at the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 27. He signed a six-year, $33.3 million contract with Montreal on July 31, 2024, after he 22 points (six goals, 16 assists), ranked second on the Canadiens with 178 blocked shots and third in time on ice per game (20:51) the previous season.
Guhle was selected by Prince Albert with the No. 1 pick in the 2017 Western Hockey League Draft and helped the Raiders win the Ed Chynoweth Cup in his first full season.
After being drafted by the Canadiens, Guhle signed a three-year, entry-level contract Oct. 21, 2020. He played the next three seasons for Prince Albert and Edmonton in the WHL and made Montreal's roster out of training camp in 2022-23.
