Connor McMichael established an NHL career high with 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 80 games for the Washington Capitals during the 2023-24 regular season and scored one goal in four Stanley Cup Playoff games. In lieu of becoming a restricted free agent, he signed a two-year, $4.2 million contract July 1, 2024.
McMichael was a first-round pick (No. 25) in the 2019 NHL Draft. In 2023-24, he ranked tied for fourth on Washington in goals and sixth in points and was one of just four Capitals to play at least 80 games. He was fifth among forwards in short-handed ice time per game (1:20) and tied for the team lead in short-handed points (two) after playing a total of 45 seconds on the penalty kill in 75 previous NHL games.
McMichael played most of the 2022-23 season for Hershey in the American Hockey League and led the Bears with six goals during the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs. He scored in Games 6 and 7 of the Calder Cup Finals against Coachella Valley to help Hershey win its 12th AHL championship.
