The long road to the NHL for Christiansen was worth it.
The undrafted defenseman signed a two-year, $1.95 million contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 17, 2025, during his first full season in the League, his place secured after five seasons with Everett in the Western Hockey League and playing 211 games for Cleveland of the American Hockey League.
Christiansen had 140 points (40 goals, 100 assists) in the AHL. He was named to the league's Second All-Star Team (2021-22, 2023-24) and the AHL All-Star Classic (2023, 2024) and was tied for fourth among AHL defensemen with 46 points (13 goals, 33 assists) in 2023-24. At the time he signed his contract with the Blue Jackets, he set NHL career highs in assists, points and games played.
He signed his entry level contract with Columbus on Mar. 4, 2020, as an undrafted free agent, at the time leading the WHL at his position in goals and points per game (1.34), ranking third in power-play goals and tied for ninth in points.
