Carl Grundstrom was acquired by the San Jose Sharks in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings for Kyle Burroughs on June 27, 2024.
Grundstrom averaged about 54 games the previous three seasons in Los Angeles, his best when he had 19 points (12 goals, seven assists) in 2022-23. He scored in his NHL debut with the Kings at the Arizona Coyotes on March 9, 2019, nearly one year after helping Toronto of the American Hockey League win the 2018 Calder Cup with 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in 20 playoff games.
Before coming to North America, Grundstrom played four seasons in the Swedish Hockey League and won a Champions Hockey League title with Frolunda in 2016-17. He was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round (No. 57) of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Grundstrom played for his native Sweden at the 2022, 2023 and 2024 IIHF World Championship, winning bronze at the 2024 tournament with two goals to defeat Canada in the third-place game. He twice participated in the IIHF World Junior Championship, finishing fourth in 2016 and 2017.
