Daccord became a household name after making 35 saves for the Seattle Kraken to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, the first shutout in the history of the event. His cross-crease glove stop on Jack Eichel with 2:13 remaining left a sellout crowd of 47,313 chanting "Joey, Joey."

"Truly the coolest thing in the world," Daccord said.

Daccord's experience in the NHL can also be defined as cool. He took over the No. 1 role in Seattle after Philipp Grubauer sustained a lower-body injury Dec. 9 and started nine of the Kraken's next 10 games, going 6-1-2 with a 1.43 goals-against average, .953 save percentage and his first two NHL shutouts. The Winter Classic was a big step in a journey that included the Ottawa Senators leaving him unprotected for the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. The Kraken selected Daccord and gave him a fresh start with their American Hockey League affiliate in Charlotte after their inaugural training camp.

Daccord signed a five-year, $25 million contract (average annual value of $5 million) with the Kraken on Oct. 9, 2024; he could have become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He was chosen by the Senators in the seventh round (No. 199) of the 2015 NHL Draft, and played in the United States Hockey League and Arizona State University, where in 2018-19 he had seven shutouts and was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and Mike Richter Award as a junior.

He signed a two-year contract with Ottawa on April 1, 2019. He split the next two seasons between the AHL and NHL before being picked up by Seattle.
