Vejmelka firmly established himself in the NHL and a new market when he signed a five-year contract with the Utah Hockey Club on March 6, 2025, forgoing unrestricted free agency at a time when he had new NHL career-bests in goals-against average (2.45) and save percentage (.910).
Vejmelka played for Team Czechia at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, adding to his international resume that has a gold medal at the 2024 IIHF World Championship and silver at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 World Championship. He was named the NHL Third Star for the week ending Jan. 18, 2026, by going 3-0-0 with a 1.67 GAA and .926 save percentage, defeating the St. Louis Blues 4-2 at Delta Center on Jan. 9 to join Dominik Hasek (Buffalo Sabres in 1997-98 and 1998-99) as the second Czechia-born goalie in NHL history to pace everyone at his position to 20 wins in any season. Vejmelka made 27 saves for his 100th NHL win while becoming the first goalie to 30 wins in 2025-26 when the Mammoth defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 in overtime March 7, 2026.
Vejmelka was chosen by teammates as Utah's first team MVP following the 2024-25 season. He was a fifth-round pick (No. 145) by the Nashville Predators in the 2015 NHL Draft, but opted not to sign with them and became a free agent. He played five seasons for Kometa in the Czech Republic before signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Arizona Coyotes on May 5, 2021.
He earned a role with Arizona to begin his first season in North America and made 32 saves, the fourth-highest total in an NHL debut in Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets history, in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Sabres on Oct. 16, 2022.
A native of Trebic, Czech Republic, Vejmelka avoided restricted free agency and signed a three-year contract with the Coyotes on March 21, 2022.
