Rookie of the Year
Kaprizov signed an eight-year, $136 million contract with the Minnesota Wild on Sept. 30, 2025. It had an average annual value of $17 million and was set to begin with the 2026-27 season. At the time of the signing, Kaprizov was first in Wild history in points per game (1.21), goals per game (0.58) and overtime goals (10). He held team records for the longest point streak (14 games from Nov. 9 to Dec. 9, 2022), goal streak (seven from Nov. 23 to Dec. 7, 2022) and assist streak (nine from Nov. 11 to Dec. 1, 2022).
Kaprizov had three assists in a 6-5 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 26, 2025, to reach 400 points in the NHL, becoming the fastest player in Wild history to reach the milestone. He became the Wild's all-time leader in goals when he scored into an empty net at 16:41 of the third period to complete a 5-1 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 3, 2026. The goal was his 220th in the NHL, breaking a tie with Marian Gaborik.
Kaprizov was chosen by the Wild in the fifth round (No. 135) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He made an immediate impact when he had two assists and then scored in overtime in his NHL debut, a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 14, 2021. The forward became the first player in NHL history with three points, including an overtime goal, in his first game.
He scored his 37th point April 19 to break Gaborik's Wild rookie record of 36 points set in 2000-01.
Kaprizov led NHL rookies in goals (27), points (51), power-play goals (eight) and shots on goal (157) in 55 games and won the Calder Trophy voted as NHL rookie of the year. The following season, he scored 47 goals to break the Wild single-season record of 42 previously owned by Gaborik (2007-08) and Eric Staal (2017-18) and became the first player in team history to reach 100 points in one season (108). He also helped Minnesota set team records for most wins (53) and points (113).
During Kaprizov's third NHL season (2022-23), his goal and two assists in Minnesota's 4-2 win against the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 18 gave him 200 points in his NHL career. Only three players active that season reached the mark in fewer games: Sidney Crosby (142 games), Alex Ovechkin (165 games) and Evgeni Malkin (166 games).
Prior to joining the NHL, Kaprizov played six seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League. His best season was 2019-20 when he led the league with 33 goals and was third with 62 points. He also helped the Olympic Athletes of Russia win the gold medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics by scoring five goals, tied with teammate Ilya Kovalchuk and Ryan Donato of the United States for the tournament lead.
