Rarely is Adin Hill speechless, but in the moments after helping the Vegas Golden Knights to a Stanley Cup-clinching 9-3 victory against the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, he couldn't come up with the right words to describe his emotions.

"I try to keep my cool, but it's hard right now. It's pretty surreal," he said.

Weeks later, Hill signed a two-year, $9.8 million contract with Vegas, preventing him from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Hill took control of the No. 1 goalie role for the Golden Knights after Laurent Brossoit sustained a lower-body injury against the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round. He went 11-4 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 2.17 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and two shutouts -- each coming against the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final.

Hill made 24 saves for the Vegas Golden Knights to earn his first NHL postseason win, 5-1 at the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round in 2023. He entered the game at 11:44 of the first period when starter Laurent Brossoit sustained a lower-body injury, with only 20 minutes and four shots of NHL postseason experience. He became the fifth goalie on record to earn his first playoff win in relief while playing at least 45 minutes and allowing zero goals-against, joining Elvis Merzlikins, Scott Darling, Scott Clemmensen and Ed Belfour. His 23 saves in a 6-0 win against the Stars in Game 6 of the conference final made him the eighth different goalie in 20 years to earn a series-clinching shutout in the round before the Stanley Cup Final.

The playoff run capped a fine first season for Hill with the Golden Knights after he was acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on Aug. 29, 2022, for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. He went 16-7-1 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .915 save percentage, setting NHL career highs in games (27), starts (25) and victories and had the third-best GAA in a single season in Golden Knights history. Hill played his 100th NHL game on March 3, 2023, a 4-3 shootout win against the New Jersey Devils, and set Vegas records with 47 saves and 50 shots-against.

Hill's amazing save on Florida Panthers forward Nick Cousins 50 seconds into the second period sparked the Golden Knights to a 5-2 victory in Game 1 of the 2023 Final. It was reminiscent of a save Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby made on Golden Knights forward Alex Tuch in Game 2 of the Cup Final in 2018, which happened in the same end of the ice. He outplayed Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to join Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings (against Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils in 2012) as the second goalie in 20 years to defeat a two-time Vezina winner in the Final.

Hill was named to Canada's roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off during the 2024-25 season and signed a six-year, $37.5 million contract with the Golden Knights on March 15. He played an NHL career-high 39 games at the time of the signing with a 2.53 GAA and .906 save percentage,

The Comox, British Columbia, native was chosen by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round (No. 76) of the 2015 NHL Draft and was traded to the Sharks on July 17, 2021, after five seasons in the Coyotes organization. He helped Canada win the 2021 IIHF World Championship and played four seasons for Portland of the Western Hockey League (2013-16). His .921 save percentage in 2014-15 led the league among qualified goalies.
