Angello's NHL debut on Jan. 31, 2020, was a long time coming.
The 6-foot-5 center from Albany, New York, was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round (No. 145) of the 2014 NHL Draft after his first season with Omaha of the United States Hockey League. He played one more season with Omaha before playing three seasons of collegiate hockey at Cornell.
Angello signed with the Penguins on April 5, 2018, and joined Wilkes-Barre Scranton of the American Hockey League. He scored 29 points (16 goals, 13 assists) with a plus-17 rating in 65 games during his first full AHL season, then scored 25 points (16 goals, nine assists) in 48 games in 2019-20 before being called up by the Penguins.
After settling in as a fourth-line forward, Angello scored his first NHL point, a goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs, on Feb. 18, 2020; he dressed for that game only because Pittsburgh center Evgeni Malkin was a late scratch because of an illness.
