Ville Husso got his first opportunity to play in the NHL during the 2020-21 season, when he went 9-6-1 with a 3.21 goals-against average, .893 save percentage and one shutout in 17 games (15 starts) for the St. Louis Blues.
A fourth-round pick (No. 94) in the 2014 NHL Draft, Husso got his first NHL win in his second start, 4-1 against the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 31, 2021. He got his first NHL shutout by defeating the Minnesota Wild 4-0 on May 12.
Husso's professional career began with HIFK in Liiga, the top pro league in his native Finland, in 2013-14. In 2015-16 he won the Urpo Ylonen Award as the best goaltender in Liiga after he was 25-8 with six ties, a 1.91 GAA, .927 save percentage and five shutouts while helping HIFK advance to the Liiga final.
He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Blues on May 10, 2016, and played most of the next four seasons for Chicago and San Antonio in the American Hockey League. He signed a three-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings on July 8, 2022, after he was acquired in a trade with the Blues. He was traded to the Anaheim Ducks by the Red Wings on Feb. 24, 2025, for future considerations.
Husso signed a two-year contract to stay with the Ducks on June 29, 2025, in lieu of becoming an unrestricted free agent.
Husso was the backup goalie to Juuse Saros with Finland when it won the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship.
