De la Rose, a forward born in Arvika, Sweden, was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round (No. 34) in the 2013 NHL Draft after he had 13 points (six goals, seven assists) for Leksand of the Swedish Hockey League.

He came to North America for the 2014-15 season and played with Hamilton of the American Hockey League, where he had 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 37 games. De le Rose made his NHL debut Feb. 3, 2015 in a 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres and got his first NHL point with an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Feb. 12. He scored his first two NHL goals in a 5-2 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Feb. 26 and finished the season with six points (four goals, two assists) in 33 games.

He played in 31 games over the next two seasons with Montreal and had one assist, then played 55 games with the Canadiens in 2017-18, finishing with 12 points (four goals, eight assists) and 127 hits.

De la Rose agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Canadiens on July 5, 2017, but they lost him on waivers to the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 17, 2018. He played an NHL career-high 60 games with Detroit in 2018-19, but was traded to the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 6, 2019.

He had two points (one goal, one assist) in 10 games to help Sweden finish first at the 2018 IIHF World Championship. He also helped Sweden to a second-place finish at the IIHF World U-18 Championship in 2012 and the World Junior Championship in 2013.
