Paul has emerged as one of the Tampa Bay Lightning's hardest-working forwards. He played 76 games during his fourth season with Tampa Bay in 2024-25, when he was plus-13 and scored three game-winning goals. He ranked third among Lightning skaters by winning 50.0 percent of his face-offs and his 66 hits were seventh among forwards.

Paul's assist on Darren Raddysh's goal at 17:08 of the second period in a 6-2 win at the Boston Bruins on March 15, 2025, was the 100th of his NHL career.

Acquired by Tampa Bay before the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline, Paul helped the Lightning reach the Stanley Cup Final for a third straight season in 2021-22, getting nine points (five goals, four assists) along the way. His biggest moment was scoring both goals in a 2-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference First Round.

He had NHL career highs in goals (24), assists (22) and points (46) for the Lightning in the 2023-24 season.

Paul was chosen by the Dallas Stars in the fourth round (No. 101) of the 2013 NHL Draft and was traded to the Ottawa Senators on July 1, 2014.

In 2015, the Mississauga, Ontario native helped Canada win the gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship. He scored three goals in seven games, including one in Canada's 5-4 victory against Russia in the final.
