Frk's reputation as a scorer began during his time with Halifax in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In his three seasons there from 2010-13, he had 73 goals in 152 games including 35 goals and 84 points in 56 games in 2012-13, when he also had 33 points in 17 playoff games. That same season, Frk helped Halifax win the Memorial Cup.

The Red Wings, who selected Frk in the second round (No. 49) of the 2012 NHL Draft, signed him to a three-year, entry-level contract a month later. He spent the next three seasons with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League and Toledo of the ECHL.

Frk was placed on waivers and claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 9, 2016, and made his NHL debut nine days later. On Oct. 18, he played in his second NHL game against the Red Wings, before Carolina placed him on waivers and Detroit claimed him.

Frk had 27 goals in each AHL season from 2015-17, including 15 points in 16 playoff games to help Grand Rapids win the Calder Cup championship in 2017.

Making the opening night roster with Detroit prior to the 2017-18 season, Frk scored in his first two games and finished with 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 68 games.

Frk set an AHL record with a 109.2 mph slap shot at the league's All-Star Game skills competition on Jan. 26, 2020.
