A late bloomer, Nestrasil first made it to the NHL after a breakout training camp with the Detroit Red Wings in 2014. It wasn't long before the color of the forward's jersey changed from Red Wings red to Carolina Hurricanes red.

Forced to clear a roster spot for the return of another player from injury in November, 2014, the Red Wings waived Nestrasil, hoping he'd clear waivers and join their American Hockey League team in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Less than 24 hours after being waived, though, Nestrasil was claimed by the Hurricanes. Two days later, on Nov. 22, Nestrasil made his Hurricanes debut a memorable one by scoring his first NHL goal against Reto Berra in Carolina's loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Nestrasil played in 41 games for Carolina in 2014-15, scoring seven goals with 11 assists.

A big-bodied player (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) with the speed and skill usually found in smaller forwards, Nestrasil can play any forward position and has proven to be an effective playmaker.

Nestrasil played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2008-2011 and represented the Czech Republic at the World Junior Championship in 2010 and 2011, combining for 10 points in 12 games.

Nestrasil was selected in third round (No. 75) by the Red Wings in the 2009 NHL Draft and he spent his first two years in Detroit's system, shuttling between Grand Rapids and Toledo of the East Coast Hockey League.

He spent all of the 2013-14 season with Grand Rapids, where he had 16 goals and 20 assists and earned a look at Red Wings camp.
