The veteran forward has been a reliable penalty-killer for the Ottawa Senators since returning to the NHL from Switzerland after the 2015-16 season. He had 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in 81 games for the Senators in 2017-18.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native came back to the NHL in 2016 and signed with the Senators, reuniting him with Ottawa coach Guy Boucher, who had coached him with Hamilton in the American Hockey League and with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Pyatt had 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in 82 games in 2016-17, then scored two goals in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help the Senators reach Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final.

Pyatt played five seasons in the NHL before signing with Geneve-Servette in Switzerland's top league on Aug. 4, 2014, reuniting him with older brother Taylor Pyatt, who played for six teams in the NHL from 2001-14. Pyatt won the 2014 Spengler Cup with Geneve-Servette, then helped Canada win it in 2015.

Pyatt was selected by the New York Rangers in the fourth round (No. 107) of the 2005 NHL Draft. He helped Canada win the gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2006 and 2007. After two seasons in the minors, he was traded to the Canadiens on June 30, 2009.

He started the 2009-10 season with Hamilton but was called up less than a month into the season and made his NHL debut against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 5, 2009. His first NHL goal and assist came in the same game, a 6-5 victory against the Washington Capitals on Feb 10, 2010. Pyatt had two goals and two assists in 18 playoff games to help the Canadiens reach the 2010 Eastern Conference Final. He had 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 101 games during two seasons with the Canadiens.

The Lightning signed Pyatt as a free agent on July 6, 2011. He played three seasons with Tampa Bay from 2011-14 and had 42 points (23 goals, 19 assists) in 144 games. His father, Nelson Pyatt, played for three NHL teams from 1973-80.
