Goaltender(s) on Team with Fewest Goals Against
Elliott's goaltending journey is one of perseverance and unwavering self-belief.
Elliott was playing for Ajax of the Ontario Provincial Junior A League when he was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the ninth round (No. 291), the next-to-last player picked in the 2003 NHL Draft.
Elliott went the college route, enrolling at the University of Wisconsin, where he was a backup for two years before earning the starting job. In his junior year, Elliott led Wisconsin to the 2006 NCAA championship and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to college hockey's top player.
Following his senior season at Wisconsin in 2006-07, Elliott played eight games with Binghamton of the American Hockey League. He made his NHL debut with the Senators on Oct. 10, 2007, making 28 saves in a 3-1 win against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Elliott spent the rest of the season in the AHL before splitting the 2008-09 season between Ottawa and Binghamton. He won 29 games with the Senators in 2009-10 but was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on Feb. 18, 2011. He became a free agent at the end of the season and signed with the St. Louis Blues.
The Newmarket, Ontario, native spent five seasons with the Blues. In 2011-12 he went 23-10-4 with nine shutouts in 38 games (36 starts), led the NHL in goals-against average (1.56) and save percentage (.940), won the William M. Jennings Trophy, awarded to the team that allowed the fewest goals, and placed fifth for the Vezina Trophy, voted to the League's top goalie.
Elliott led the NHL with a .930 save percentage in 2015-16 when the Blues reached the Western Conference Final, but he never played more than 46 games in a season with St. Louis, and on June 24, 2016 he was traded to the Calgary Flames.
He signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on July 1, 2017.
