Eriksson retired from the NHL on Feb. 10, 2025, after 16 seasons. He had 613 points (253 goals, 360 assists) in 1,050 games with the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes, and 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 44 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He last played in the League during the 2021-22 season, when he had 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) in 73 games for the Coyotes.

Selected by Dallas in the second round (No. 33) of the 2003 NHL Draft, Eriksson made an immediate impact, scoring in his NHL debut against the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 4, 2006. The best stretch of his career came from 2008-12, when he had 278 points (118 goals, 160 assists) in 325 games for the Stars, which ranked 21st in the League. During that span, he was also selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game in 2011, when he finished with an NHL career-high 73 points (27 goals, 46 assists) in 79 games.

Eriksson scored 30 goals and 63 points while playing a full 82-game season for the Bruins in 2015-16. He also scored 10 power-play goals and 17 power-play points. The Canucks, looking to improve their 29th-ranked offense (2.27 goals per game) and 15.8 percent efficiency on the power play, signed him to a six-year contract July 1, 2016.

After the 2003 draft, Eriksson remained in Sweden for two seasons before joining Iowa of the American Hockey League, where he had 31 goals and 60 points in 78 games in 2005-06. He returned to Iowa for 15 games before getting recalled and scoring 19 points in 59 games. He led the Stars with 36 goals, ranked second with 63 points and led them at plus-14 in 2008-09. He signed a six-year contract with Dallas on Oct. 2, 2009.

Relied upon more heavily to contribute offensively, Eriksson responded with 29, 27 and 26 goals, and 71, 73 and 71 points, respectively, over the next three seasons.

Eriksson was traded to Boston in a seven-player trade that sent Tyler Seguin to the Stars on July 4, 2013.
