Statistics only partially show the impact some hockey players have on their teams. Brown is one of those players.

Selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round (No. 13) of the 2003 NHL Draft, the Ithaca, N.Y., native is a hard-charging right wing with scoring punch who is also an off-ice leader. In 2008-09 he was the youngest player (23) and first American to be named captain of the Kings, and he became the second United States-born captain to lift the Stanley Cup when Los Angeles won its first title in 2012 (Derian Hatcher did it with the Dallas Stars in 1999). Brown helped lead the Kings to a second title in 2014.

Something of a heat-seeking missile on the ice, Brown (6-foot, 206 pounds) led the Kings in hits for 10 consecutive seasons from 2005-06 through 2014-15 and ranked among the league's top three in the category six times over that span. Brown began a streak of five straight 20-goal, 50-point seasons in 2007-08, when he had a team-leading 33 goals, and he ranked among L.A.'s top three scorers in each of those seasons.

An 18-year-old Brown made his NHL debut Oct. 9, 2003, against the Detroit Red Wings. He got his first NHL point the day after his 19th birthday with an assist against the Florida Panthers on Nov. 5, 2003, and scored his first NHL goal Nov. 22, 2003, against the Colorado Avalanche. Brown finished second in the NHL with 258 hits in 2006-07, and in 2007-08 led the NHL with 311 hits before earning his first NHL All-Star Game selection in 2009.

He made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut in 2010 and finished the Kings' six-game first-round series against the Vancouver Canucks with a goal and five points. Brown tied for the playoff lead with eight goals, 12 assists and 20 points, a plus-16 rating and two shorthanded goals during the Kings' 2012 title run.

After helping Los Angeles reach the 2013 Western Conference Final, Brown had 14 points in the 2014 playoffs, including his first overtime playoff goal in the NHL, in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the New York Rangers on June 7, 2014.

Nominated for the King Clancy Award for leadership and humanitarian service for four straight years from 2010-2013, Brown received the NHL Foundation Award for community service in 2011 and the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2014.

Brown's distinguished international career has included his winning a silver medal with the United States at the 2010 Olympics and a bronze medal with the U.S. at the 2004 World Championship. He also had three goals and eight points over 14 games at the World Junior Championship in 2002 and 2003.
