Scuderi knows all about playing for championships, having won an NCAA title, lifted the Stanley Cup and made the Calder Cup Finals in the American Hockey League.

A workmanlike defenseman and capable penalty-killer, the veteran leader blocks shots and uses his body (6-foot-1, 212 pounds) to move opposing forwards out of dangerous areas.

Never a big scorer, Scuderi nevertheless has contributed to big moments. Of those, none was bigger than his assist on the game-winning goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Final.

Selected by Pittsburgh in the fifth round (No. 134) in the 1998 NHL Draft, Scuderi made his NHL debut on Feb. 12, 2004, against the Florida Panthers, and got his first NHL point with an assist in a 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 22, 2004. He scored his first NHL goal and had his first multipoint game in the League on the same night in a 7-4 win against the New York Rangers on March 7, 2004.

After helping Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate, reach the 2004 Calder Cup Finals, Scuderi spent the 2004-05 season in the AHL during the NHL lockout. He made the Penguins' opening-night roster in 2005-06 and, despite playing in only 57 games, finished third on the team with 103 blocked shots.

In 2007 Scuderi made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut, appearing in all five of Pittsburgh's postseason games. In 2007-08 he scored his first NHL playoff point with an assist on the winning goal in Game 3 of Pittsburgh's first-round series with Ottawa. He had an assist in Games 1 and 2 of the Penguins' second-round series with the Rangers and helped Pittsburgh reach the Stanley Cup Final against the Detroit Red Wings.

In 2008-09, Scuderi led Pittsburgh with 164 blocked shots and a plus-23 rating in the regular season. In helping Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup in 2009, he led the NHL with 53 blocked shots and scored his first NHL postseason goal, in Game 3 of the first round against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Scuderi signed with the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent on July 2, 2009, and played a big role in the Kings' winning the franchise's first championship in 2012. After four seasons in Los Angeles, he signed a free agent contract to return to Pittsburgh on July 5, 2013. The Penguins traded Scuderi to the Chicago Blackhawks for Trevor Daley on Dec. 14, 2015, and on Feb. 26, 2016, Chicago traded him to the Kings for Christian Ehrhoff.

Before his pro career, Scuderi helped Boston College win an NCAA championship in 2001 and was named to that year's all-tournament team. Scuderi finished his college career as BC's all-time leader with 169 games played.
