Frederickson, a Winnipeg native, followed a brilliant amateur career with a number of impressive seasons as a pro, the final five in the NHL from 1926-31.
After serving in World War I, Frederickson came home and helped the Winnipeg Falcons win the Allan Cup, Canada's senior amateur championship, in 1920. He also scored 12 goals at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics to power Canada to the gold medal.
Frederickson turned pro with the Victoria Cougars of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association in 1920-21 and scored 20 goals in 21 games as a rookie. In 1922-23, he led the PCHA with 39 goals and 55 points. Victoria joined the Western Canada Hockey League in 1924, and Frederickson helped them defeat the Montreal Canadiens in the 1925 Stanley Cup Final to become the last non-NHL team to win the championship.
The WCHL folded after the 1925-26 season; Frederickson, like many of his teammates, wound up with the expansion Detroit Cougars of the NHL. He played 17 games for Detroit before being traded to the Boston Bruins on Jan. 7, 1927, and had 14 goals in 27 games with them, including four in a 7-3 win against the New York Rangers 11 days after the trade.
Boston traded Frederickson to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Dec. 21, 1928. He was player-coach of the Pirates during the 1929-30 season and finished his NHL career with the Detroit Falcons, in 1930-31. In 161 NHL games, he had 73 points (39 goals, 34 assists) and 211 penalty minutes.
Frederickson coached hockey and lacrosse after his retirement from the NHL. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1958 and died on May 28, 1979 at the age of 83.
