Woodrow "Woody" Dumart, a native of Berlin, Ontario, played 16 NHL seasons with the Boston Bruins from 1935-54 and won the Stanley Cup twice (1939, 1941). He had 430 points (211 goals, 219 assists) in 774 regular-season games and 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in 88 playoff games.
A forward, Dumart was dependable in both ends of the ice. In his first full NHL season (1937-38), he had 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) in 48 games. He later became a member of the famed "Kraut Line" alongside forwards Milt Schmidt and Bobby Bauer, which played a major role in two championship runs.
Dumart was named to the NHL's Second All-Star Team in 1939-40, when he scored 20 goals for the first time (22 goals, 21 assists in 48 games). He received the honor again the following season with 34 points (18 goals, 16 assists) in 42 games.
After the 1941-42 season, Dumart left the NHL to join the Canadian Armed Forces and served his country overseas. But he returned in time for the 1945-46 season and had three straight seasons of at least 20 goals and participated in the NHL All-Star Game in 1947 and 1948.
Dumart retired after playing 15 games for the Providence Reds of the American Hockey League in 1954. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992 and died in 2001.
