Samuel 'Rusty' Crawford played 38 NHL games over two seasons with the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Arenas from 1917-19.

A native of Cardinal, Ontario, Crawford's professional career began in the National Hockey Association with the Quebec Bulldogs, who he helped win the Stanley Cup in 1913. A left wing, Crawford scored 51 goals over a three-year stretch from 1913-16, and he had 20 points (11 goals, nine assists) 19 games in his final season in Quebec (1916-17) before being selected by the Senators in the dispersal draft prior to the NHLs inaugural season in 1917-18.

That season, Crawford had two goals and two assists in 13 games for Ottawa but was loaned to Toronto late in the season due to roster restrictions. He had two goals and an assist in the postseason to help the Arenas win the Stanley Cup.

In 1918-19, his last in the NHL, Crawford had 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in 18 games.

The following six seasons of Crawford spent playing in Western Canada, including in 1923-24, when he helped the Calgary Tigers reach the Stanley Cup Final before losing to the Montreal Canadiens. The following season, he scored 12 goals in 24 games.

After his brief stint with the Vancouver Maroons of the Western Hockey League in 1925-26, Crawford headed east and played the final four seasons of his career with the Minneapolis Millers of the American Hockey Association, winning the championship in 1928.

Crawford retired in 1930 at the age of 45 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1962.

He died on Dec. 19, 1971, at the age of 86.
